What kinds of traditions does your family have for Christmas morning?

It has been fun and interesting to see how over the years our own family traditions have changed and evolved. When we first got married we definitely played the game of trading back and forth between our parent’s homes for Thanksgiving and Christmas. But now that we have kids, are setting in our own home and also have work schedules to contend with, we have started to make our own traditions.

My husband is one of those unlucky people who, for the majority of the time, has to work on Christmas. (Side note: If you happen to have to do anything at all where you come into contact with people who are working on Christmas Day, please give them lots of love and patience and respect. They are working really hard and are missing their families! And their families are missing them!).

We have made it our own family tradition to get up early in the morning for stockings, Santa gifts, and maybe a present or two before Daddy has to go to work. Then the girls and I – holy crap. This year we are going to have THREE girls! – spend a quiet morning at home watching Christmas movies, eating cinnamon rolls, hanging out in our jimmies and playing with whatever goodies we have opened. The rest of my family meanders over after lunch time and we spend the rest of the day spending time together until my husband is able to come home from work, and then we open presents and have dinner.

I LOVE the idea of a big family brunch – and in years past we have had big feasts with lots of family. If you are having a big get together first thing in the morning (like if everyone has spent the night at one house) then a big Christmas Brunch is definitely something you need to do!
