Pumpkin Spice Latte Syrup

I’ve recently realized how cheap I have become. Why is that, you ask? Well, let me tell you.

See, it’s fall (obviously) and the world is abuzz with pumpkins. And with that, comes Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Now for the rest of the world, this is a great thing. But I happen to find myself in a town without a coffee shop. Not a single one. Sure, there are places you can buy coffee, but try as they might, fast food restaurants just don’t do speciality coffee. The nearest coffee shop happens to 20 minutes away. And while it is cute, and can turn out a good cup of joe, it’s not exactly close by. I love my coffee, and my flavored-syrup-whipped-cream-topped-concoction as well as anyone, but I’m not driving twenty minutes to spend $4 on a cup.

So when I saw this recipe to make your own Pumpkin Spice Lattes, you better believe I jumped at the chance to make some myself!! But here is where the “I’m cheap” part comes into play. I really liked this recipe, mind you, and so of course I wanted to share it with you! See, while every other blog site that lists this recipe has beautiful photos of whipped cream topped mugs, I am showing you a plain old cup of coffee. I don’t generally have whipped cream in my house, and I didn’t really feel like spending the time/money to make/buy whipped cream just so I could share this recipe! Does that make me a bad blogger? Probably. But I’ve always been real with you guys – I don’t use props, I don’t photoshop any of my pictures, I am not a food stylist. And so why I do realize that this post would probably be a whole lot more appealing if the cup of coffee was beautiful, I think if you really were going to make this anyway, a little bit of whipped cream isn’t going to stop you!

And, by the way, this syrup is great! I added a tablespoon or two to my coffee every morning, threw in a splash of milk, and it  was delicious! Top with whip cream if you choose! Whether you add milk or whipped cream, this syrup will give your coffee that pumpkin spice kick you love! And no crazy ingredients, either!

Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Keywords: beverage pumpkin fall
Ingredients (20 servings)
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 3 tbsp pumpkin puree
Combine the water and sugar in a medium saucepan and heat over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has completely disolved.
Toss in the cinnamon sticks and whisk in the rest of the rest of the spices and the pumpkin puree.
Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, without letting the mixture come to a boil.
Remove from heat and allow to sit for 10-15 minutes.
Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a container of your choice.
Store in the refrigerator.
I mixed 1-2 tablespoons of the syrup into my coffee with a splash of milk.

Right there with you girl! Sometimes I change the contrast in my photos on photobucket, ha. That's as fancy as I get.

Love this recipe! I recently tried a different one that wasn't what I was expecting. I'll have to try this one! Yum.
