Mediterranean Hummus

Homemade hummus is so good and so easy, you will soon forget you can even buy it at the store! This classic Mediterranean hummus is creamy, flavorful, and the perfect snack for your family.

- The Gingered Whisk

Chickpeas

Key Ingredient

– chickpeas, drained and rinsed – baking soda – garlic cloves, minced – ice cubes – tahini – lemon juice – salt

Ingredients

1. Drain the chickpeas and rinse in water.

DRAIN THE CHICKPEAS

2. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

ADD TO A SAUCEPAN

3. Place on the stovetop, bring to a simmer for 20 minutes.

SIMMER

4. Add in the baking soda and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.

ADD THE BAKING SODA

5. Place the chickpeas in a strainer and rinse under cold water. No need to peel the chickpeas!

DRAIN & RINSE

1. Place the lemon juice, garlic, and salt in the food processor and blend until it is almost smooth.

MAKE THE HUMMUS

2. Allow the mixture to sit for about 5 minutes to let the garlic mellow in the lemon juice.

REST

3. Add the tahini sauce to the food processor and blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy, about 5 minutes. Scrape down the sides if needed and continue blending to make it all the same texture.

ADD THE TAHINI

5. Transfer to a storage container and place in the fridge for 1 hour to allow the flavors to blend together well.
