Homemade horchata is a creamy and refreshing Mexican drink made with rice, cinnamon, and sweetened milk. Easy to make at home, this family-friendly recipe is perfect for kids to help with and a fun way to explore new flavors together.
Combine the jasmine, 3 cups of hot water, and the cinnamon sticks into a medium-large bowl. Cover and allow the rice to sit in the hot water overnight, at least 8-12 hours for the best flavor.
The next morning, pour all of the rice, water, and cinnamon sticks directly from the bowl into a blender and blend until everything has been completely broken down into tiny pieces.
Use a fine mesh sieve, strainer, or cheesecloth and strain the liquid from the crushed rice and cinnamon sticks into a bowl or directly into a pitcher if the mouth is wide enough to fit the sieve.
Add the additional 3 cups of water, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract and stir until everything has been combined.
Chill until you are ready to serve.
Serve over ice, garnish with ground cinnamon and enjoy!
