Adding lavender to anything makes it seems extra special and fun. I LOVE pairing lavender with other flavors (especially fruit), like in my blueberry and lavender cheesecake bars, my earl grey cupcakes with lavender buttercream, and my iced lemon lavender cookies. These recipes just beg for a tea party in the garden, don’t you think?

I love this recipe because it is so simple and is an easy DIY homemade version of store-bought lemonade, but it also helps expand little palates in easy and fun ways.

Lavender is native to the rocky mountainous regions of the Mediterranean, and travelers quickly fell in love with it and spread it far and wide. By the 1500s it was already a well loved feature in European gardens, and it came to America almost as soon as the pilgrims did.

Did you know that lemonade itself was invented in Paris in 1630? This favorite drink has become well loved all over the world as well, so combing these two things that are known and loved all over the world for hundreds of years into one amazing drink just seems to natural.

This is just an overview so you know what you need to have on hand. For the full recipe, please make sure you scroll down to the recipe card below.

  • Granulated Sugar – We need this to sweeten our lemonade!
  • Lavender – For this recipe you want to make sure you use dried culinary lavender (affiliate link). Not all dried lavender is meant for eating, so make sure you get culinary grade. You can also use lavender flowers from your garden!
  • Salt – We are adding a pinch of salt (any kind you have is fine) to balance the flavors. Did you know adding a pinch of salt actually helps sugar to taste sweeter? It also helps balance the floral flavor of the lavender.
  • Water – Tap will do just fine!

How to make lavender lemonade

This recipe is simple to make! For the full set of directions, please scroll down to the recipe card below. This is just a general overview on how to make it to help you plan.

Make the lavender syrup

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water and simmer to make a simple syrup. Then let the syrup steep with the lavender flowers for 30 minutes before straining them out. We are going to let the syrup steep and cool at the same time to minimize the overly florally/soapy favors that can happen with too much lavender.

Make the lemonade

  1. In a pitcher, combine the cooled lavender syrup, lemon juice, and cold water.
  2. Stir and serve over ice.

Storage Information

You can store this homemade lemonade recipe for up to 3 days in the fridge.
You can also make a big batch of the lavender simple syrup and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks, using it for other things (like your tea or coffee!) and mixing lemonade up as needed.
