This easy DIY drink has only four ingredients:

  • Cream Soda – This serves as the base of your drink. You want a soda that has a really smooth taste.
  • Butterscotch Topping – gives the main richness and flavor.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream – to create the foamy top.
  • Powdered Sugar – adds a touch of sweetness to the whipped topping. You don’t need much because the drink is already sweet enough.

Is there alcohol in butterbeer?

In the Harry Potter world, the drink does have a very mild touch of alcohol. This version, however, is non-alcoholic.

If you would like to have an adult version, you could add in a shot of butterscotch schnapps or vanilla vodka!

Serving tips

  • These are so fun to serve in a clear mug where you can see the butterbeer and the whipped topping.
  • Sticking the mugs in the freezer for about 10 minutes before serving creates frosty glasses that help the butterbeer stay colder longer.
