Ingredients needed

You only need a few ingredients to make this spicy mayo recipe. For the full amounts and directions, please scroll down to the recipe card below.

  • Mayo – Use any brand mayonnaise you like. I find the reduced fat varieties do not taste as great in this recipe.
  • Sriracha – This recipe was developed for use with sriracha brand hot sauce. I also like it with gochujang sauce for a slightly less heat but more deeper robust flavor.
  • Lime juice – You will want to use fresh squeezed lime juice for this recipe, not the pre-bottled stuff.
  • Sesame oil – This adds a slight nuttiness and really adds to the depth of flavor of the mayo. Do not skip, its so good! Make sure you get a good quality toasted sesame seed oil.
  • Garlic powder – Helps deepen the flavors of the dip. I think the powder is the best choice because it easily blends into the mayo and is quick to use, instead of accidentally biting into a big piece of garlic.

How to serve this to your family

This is a great addition to lots of food! We serve it most often with egg roll in a bowl, but it’s also a great addition to kid friendly sushi, and works as an awesome dipping sauce to grilled potato wedges and crispy sweet potato slices. It would also be great as a spread in burgers or sandwiches.

How to make spicy foods kid friendly

YES, kids can totally learn to enjoy spicy foods.

The best way to help them learn to enjoy spiciness is to slowly acclimate their palates to it.

  1. Start with a small amount of the sriracha (like ⅛  teaspoon) and stir that into about 1 Tablespoon of the seasoned mayo to make a very light pink dipping sauce. This will get them used to the flavors of the dip and the slightest hint of hot sauce without burning their taste buds out.
  2. Once they enjoy that well, you can increase the amount of sriracha to ¼ teaspoons, and then a ½ teaspoon, and so on, until they enjoy a more spicy flavor.
